General Services Administration HVAC and Electrical Renovation, Washington, DC
The 9th and 10th floor of the New Executive Office Building was redesigned to house the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Bowman, Foster, and Associates was prime on the contract and responsible for the organization of the project. The project team met with each branch within the OMB to understand how they operated and what their space requirements were. From these meetings, our team provided the client with various floor designs that incorporated each branch’s requirements for other branch proximity, open communication spaces, meeting spaces, and security needs. The project included a secure Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF), which was designed to meet specified sound and security requirements. It also incorporated a number of sustainable design elements including LED lighting throughout the facility, recycled materials, and building controls were updated with new smart thermostats and additional sensors to provide energy efficiency and a user friendly interface. The project construction was phased to coordinate with the needs of the OMB to remain operational. Phasing plans, including construction barriers for hazardous abatement were included.
