Women’s Mental Health Services & Primary Care Clinic, VA Medical Center, Hampton, VA
As the project prime and design team leader BFA designed a project that adds approximately 11,450 SF of new space to building 14 to accommodate the women's mental health services and primary care clinic. Approximately 6,300 SF of the addition is being designated for mental health and 5,150 SF will be for primary care.


This brick exterior addition is connected to the existing brick exterior, standing seam metal roof, of building 14. HVAC (all air cooled equipment is 18 SEER/EER minimum), refrigeration, fire and safety, plumbing and sanitary engineering were provided; as well as: data and telephone closets (including nurse call), power distribution systems, auxiliary power systems, lighting, switching, fire/safety/signal system. Specification and design appearance plan were provided using the VA Master Specification system. This project required a phasing plan to minimize impact on the medical center (temporary barriers, and utilities) patient flow.


Work involved: Field Verification; Architectural design; Utility design; Site and Landscaping design; Mechanical design; Medical Gas and Vacuum design; Fire Safety system design; Electrical design; and Structural design.
