E. H. Bowman, Jr. founded the company in 1961 under the name E. H. Bowman, Jr., Engineers. Initially, the firm provided only electrical engineering services, specializing in commercial work primarily with architects. In 1971, the company diversified and began providing mechanical and electrical engineering services. With this change, the firm incorporated becoming E. H. Bowman, Jr., Inc. which shortly afterward became Bowman & Associates, PC. During this period, projects and clientele were evenly split between the commercial sector and the Department of Defense (DoD). The 80’s ushered in growth and change and by 1987, when the name was changed to Bowman, Foster & Associates, PC, the firm had become a prime leader in providing consulting services to local, state and federal government agencies, as well as the private sector.
